About Me

Jim Sommerville
I have volunteered in nursing homes and care centers for more than 20 years. About 8 years ago my wife Charlotte and I were invited to conduct worship services in a nursing home. Now we conduct worship services twice a month in an assisted living facility in Marion, Iowa. I give the messages, and Charlotte plays the piano. Since I began this blog we have moved to an "independent living" facility. We have been asked to also hold services here, which we are glad to do. We both began our walk with Jesus as part of an InterVarsity chapter at the University of Kansas. In the years since, we have served in churches of several denominations in the cities in which we have lived. At present we are members of First United Methodist Church, in Marion, Iowa. Before retirement I was a school teacher and librarian. Charlotte was a nurse. I don't read my sermons, but I do write them out and give copies to residents who are hard of hearing. They appreciate being able to follow along in this way.
